Installer Support
Homes in the Electrify 2515 Community Pilot are fitted with Home Energy Management System (HEMS). The HEMS is collecting critical data for the research until September 2027. If switchboard changes are being made that may affect the HEMS (e.g. switchboard upgrade, new circuits or appliances added), please read on.
What is the Electrify 2515 Community Pilot?
The Electrify 2515 Community Pilot is a research project that aims to accelerate electrification across the nation by gathering learnings about consumer motivations, electric appliance installation at scale, long-term behaviour change, and impacts on the grid. By collecting household energy data, the pilot is proving critical research to accelerate Australia's transition to a smart, electric future. The pilot launched in October 2024 and the final research reports will be delivered at the end of 2027.
All 500 homes participating in the pilot are installed with a home energy management system (HEMS) to send home energy data directly to the research team.
Beyond the research pilot, householders may be using the HEMS to monitor their energy use, and even control and schedule some appliances such as hot water systems and batteries.
If you are making changes to a pilot participant’s switchboard, we encourage you to consider the following details to ensure any changes made don’t interfere with data collection or the household set-up.
Which HEMS model does this home have?
Five models of HEMS have been installed in homes participating in the pilot. Please check the configuration of the home’s model, and contact the manufacturer for support before making any changes to the switchboard.
| HEMS model | Configuration | Support Info |
|---|---|---|
| Clipsal Cortex | Current transformers (CTs) monitor the grid supply and circuits. | 13 73 28 https://www.clipsal.com/contact-us |
| Catch Power | CTs monitor the grid supply and circuits. In some cases it may control resistance hot water systems. | (02) 5700 5717 support@catchpower.com.au |
| Smappee | CTs monitor the grid supply and circuits. | Victor Andrade v.andrade@smappee.com 0402531766 support@smappee.com |
| Power Sensor | Device strapped to conduit to monitor electrical current flowing through cables. Not installed inside the switchboard. | https://help.powersensor.com.au/hc/en-au |
| Combined Energy Technology | CTs monitor the grid supply and circuits. Depending on compatibility a data cable may have been installed between the HEMS Power Meter and solar/battery inverters or EV Charger at the site. If a data cable is present, these appliances at the site may also be managed by the HEMS via a relay or data connection (e.g. water heaters, EV chargers, pool equipment). Power meter communicates with an Energy Management Unit connected to the internet and power supply inside the home. | support@combined.energy For significant changes to the site such as new solar or battery system, a $99 (inc. GST) flat fee is charged to update and test the new system configuration. Compatible devices can be placed under HEMS control. Devices that are not supported can be monitored using CTs to ensure the HEMS has visibility of all sources of power at the site. |
