Participating in the pilot
The Electrify 2515 Community Pilot is a real-world research project following 500 diverse households with the aim of making the energy transition faster, fairer and easier for everyone across the nation. Find key info you need to take part in this groundbreaking research pilot on this page.
How it works
-

Apply
500 homes connected to the local energy grid opt to switch out gas for electric appliances.
-

Subsidies
Via Brighte’s online portal, participants organise quotes and receive subsidies to install electric hot water systems, air conditioners and induction cooktops. Subsidies are income dependent.
-

Smart energy device
Participants get a fully subsidised smart energy device to track and optimise household energy use.
-

Research
Participants complete three surveys during their electrification journey and household energy data is collected to assess our impact and accelerate nationwide household electrification.
Pilot partners

The pilot is designed to include a diversity of households.
To be eligible, participants must:
Own or live in a property within the 2515 postcode or Bulli (2516).
Commit to replacing eligible gas appliances with efficient, electric appliances;
Have items installed within the pilot timeframe;

-
Successful applicants will receive an invitation to participate from Rewiring Australia via email. You will receive an email from Brighte welcoming you to the online portal.
You will need to verify your phone number to gain access to the online portal using the code sent to your mobile phone.
-
Participants will be directed to Brighte’s online platform. Here you can start choosing from participating registered tradespeople (vendors) to quote you on your selected appliances.
Your selected vendors will call you to arrange a time to visit your home. They will email your quotes and upload them to the Brighte online portal, where you can start to build your “package”. After selecting a quote for each installation and creating your “total package”, you’ll see the estimated subsidy and the remaining amount to pay. When you’re satisfied with the package, you can submit your product selection.
-
To access subsidies, you’ll need to confirm your household income via the Brighte online portal.
If you are requesting more than $5,000 in subsidies or if you’ve selected the lower income bracket (and are eligible for higher subsidies), you will be asked to upload some documents to verify your ID and income.
The Brighte team will review and approve your subsidy application. If you request a loan from Brighte to help pay for upgrades, they will also review your loan application.
-
Once your subsidy is approved, your selected vendors will call you to arrange an installation date.
At installation they should:
• Explain how to handle warranty claims
• Explain any ongoing maintenance required
• Offer support or user guidance
• Provide contact info for ongoing service or faults
• Issue your compliance certificates post-installation (electrical, plumbing)
• Install your fully subsidised smart energy device in your switchboard and help you download the associated app so you can monitor your household energy use.Ensure you are satisfied with your new appliances and let the vendor know if you are not.
You’ll receive an email from Brighte asking you to confirm that you are satisfied and that the installations have been completed.
If you have any post-install issues with appliances not working properly or any concerns about the quality of the work, do not confirm the completion. Report any problems directly to the vendor or call us on 4216 6032 to assist.
-
Once you have confirmed the installation of each appliance, you will receive an invoice directly from the installer. This invoice should have your pilot subsidies deducted, as well as any other government incentives you may be eligible for.
If you opted to pay using a Brighte loan, your repayments will begin.
-
All participants are asked to complete three surveys over 18 months to track and better understand their their electrification journey. These surveys will contribute valuable feedback and energy data that will be analysed to determine how household electrification might be supported nationwide.
Expect your post-install survey in your inbox soon after your appliances are installed.
-
You are reducing your fossil fuel emissions and making savings on your household energy bills at the same time. Congratulations and thank you for being part of this groundbreaking research project.
Timeline
The Pilot will be delivered in two stages between December 2024 and April 2026. The initial smaller cohort helped us collect preliminary data to inform the main rollout.
The research component of the project and analysis of participating homes will run from project launch until April 2027. We will report our collective impact and the results of the pilot back to project participants and the wider community.
Participant FAQ
Once you have applied and accepted your offer to be part of the Pilot, we’ll invite you to the Brighte online portal to start getting quotes and confirm your subsidy. This FAQ gives you an overview of what to expect and where to go for assistance as you move through the quoting, subsidy approval, and installation phase of the pilot.
